I'm such a cheapskate | |||||

"No, man. You want those really nice shoes," said Izzard, "Just keep saving up for a few more weeks. No need to buy the cheap ones now." I somehow had trouble answering him. All the shoes I saw at One Utama today looked stylish, branded and comfortable, but I was short of cash for any of them. I saw young guys hanging around with their friends and girlfriend who had really cool shoes that matched their outfit. I desired to look just as good as all of them, but on the other hand, I needed new shoes as soon as possible because the cheap pair I borrowed from my dad was torturing my feet. Actually, none of the shoes that belongs to my family members were big enough for me. "I think its better buying nice cheap ones for now," I said, "Besides, there's a big possibility that expensive shoes get stolen." "Nah. Cheap ones get stolen too you know," he replied. Once again I wanted to answer him and tell him that its better for the cheap to get stolen than the expensive, but I couldn't. I kept silent. My friends dropped me off at a store near my house after I asked them to. I decided to go on and buy a cheap pair of shoes there and put aside my desire for really expensive ones that make people respect you with their 'ooo's and 'ah's. I bought a pair that was not only cheap but looked neat and comfortable enough. The only downfall about them is that people may laugh at me for buying unoriginals, and that I'm such a cheapskate. I understand that cheap shoes don't last as long as the expensive ones, but it wouldn't make much of a difference if I could buy another few cheap pairs to wear that would last me longer than an expensive one that I couldn't afford. I wore those new cheap shoes later in the evening and looked at them. It's not the best shoes out there and it's not branded. I had sadness in my heart thinking about the choice I made over something that was so much better materialistically, but I cheered myself up soon after. As long as the comfort of the Akhirah is incomparably better, the comfort of this world wouldn't matter much. << Next Post | Previous Post >> Labels: Me
