Ruling on listening to Music

“And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allaah…” {Luqmaan 31:6}

How much of time and money have we spent for other than Allah's Pleasure? Every cent lost. Every second flying away, never to come back. I remember a time when nearly everyone I knew were so hyped up about "Akademi Fantasia". They spent hours of their time on the couch watching something that couldn't possibly have been useful for the Ummah. They wasted money voting singers using SMS methods. Don't blame the people who founded and managed those programs. It is us who are giving them support to keep moving forward.

Have your hearts hardened? In the heart of a true mu'min, deep inside he knows naturally that there is something wrong with music. He knows music affects him slowly like a plant watered everyday till it slowly and unconsciously grows big. Where are the places music is found? Can it be found in a Masjid, or can it be found in places where corruption begins to exist?

If musical instruments were halal at the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace & blessings of Allah be upon him), why would he have said, "There will be among my ummah people who will regard as permissible zina, silk, alcohol and ma’aazif (musical instruments)."?

Are you of those who are only Muslims by name, who don't take heed of Allah's words?

*The Day of Resurrection draws near,
*None besides Allâh can avert it,
*Do you then wonder at this recital (the Qur'ân)?
*And you laugh at it and weep not,
*Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements?
*So fall you down in prostration to Allâh, and worship Him (Alone).

{Surah 53 An Najm, verse 57-62}
